Launching – 2011 26′ Alerion “Canvasback IV”

26' Alerion "Canvasback IV"

This gorgeous daysailer was built by Brion Rieff Boatbuilders of Brooklin, Maine according to one of Nathaniel Greene Herreshoff’s timeless designs, the 26′ “Alerion”.  This design has had numerous write-ups in magazines over the years, most recently in an April 2010 issue of Soundings.  The builder started the project  in early 2010 and the boat came to us in August for launch and commissioning.

“Canvasback IV” had her first Vermilion Boat Club Wednesday night race a few weeks later with a glowing owner at the helm.  Other competitors on the racecourse were found to be staring as “Canvasback IV” crossed their bow!  Local photographer, Nate Parsons, was on the water that evening and caught some great shots, one of which is below.   You can see more photos from the evening on Nate’s Facebook page. Maybe sometime in the future we will see some tight match racing on Wednesday nights between “Canvasback IV” and the Tumlaren “Loki”!

About Mike

I pinch myself every day... I can't believe I'm back in Vermilion working at the boatyard! I grew up spending afternoons and summer days working at Moes Marine. I moved to Boston after college and met my wonderful wife, Maura, while living life in the big city and working at Boston BoatWorks. We traveled and volunteered abroad for 9 months in 2009 and then found our way back to our families in Ohio. We are now living in downtown Vermilion with our son, Owen, who visits the boatyard daily at coffee break!
